Telangiectasia is a condition in which broken widened small blood vessels that sit near the surface of the skin mucous membranes create visible patterns of lines. When seen on the legs, they are often called spider veins.

These patterns telangiectases, form gradually often in clusters. They may occur in rosacea in certain systemic diseases ( such as ataxia- telangiectasia, scleroderma) in long- term therapy with topical fluorinated corticosteroids.Telangiectasias are permanently dilated small blood vessels.
